A 12ft-13ft Norway Spruce is a substantial real Christmas tree intended for a large outdoor display. With its traditional conical outline, light-green needles and distinctive spruce fragrance, it can form the centrepiece of a village green, churchyard, school grounds or spacious garden. This is a tree to plan for rather than simply place beside the front door: its height, natural branch spread and supporting requirements all need to be considered before delivery.
Outdoor use only. This product is not supplied as an indoor Christmas tree. Norway Spruce also loses its needles more readily than Nordmann Fir, so regular watering and an appropriate outdoor position are important throughout the display period.
Planning a Display Around a 12ft-13ft Tree
Start with the location rather than the decorations. A tree of this height needs a suitably sized display area, access for delivery and an appropriate method of support. Its branches will extend beyond the trunk, and their natural spread will become clearer once the delivery netting is removed.
For a village or community display, consider whether the tree will stand near pedestrian routes, parked vehicles or other public areas. Schools and churches should identify a suitable installation position and discuss any site access restrictions before ordering. In a private garden, check the space around the proposed location, including overhead obstructions and the route by which the tree will be brought in.

How Tall Will the Branches Be?
Our advertised tree heights are measured from the base of the trunk to the tip of the leader. On a Norway Spruce, the leader is the upright section at the top of the tree, which can extend above the highest full branches.
A 13ft tree therefore does not necessarily have 13ft of branch coverage. The length of the leader, width of the lower branches and overall shape differ between individual trees. A 12ft-13ft outdoor tree needs supporting equipment suitable for its size, trunk and intended location. Our smaller household stands, including the Cinco 8 Tree Stand, are not intended for a tree of this height.
Please do not order a household tree stand on the assumption that it will support this Norway Spruce. The Traditional Norway Spruce Look
Norway Spruce has a distinctive appearance that differs from the softer-needled Nordmann Fir. Its pointed needles, naturally varied branches and pronounced fragrance give it the character associated with traditional outdoor Christmas trees.
Its needle retention also differs. The tree will naturally shed needles, and drying can increase the rate of needle loss. Keeping the cut trunk supplied with water can help maintain its condition, but it will not eliminate shedding.
